Percussonia is a percussion and vocal ensemble from Berlin consisting of seven
women.

West
African rhythms and songs implying chants from Eastern Europe are combined
with a lot of fun and flow in a diversified programme that invites the
audience to listen and to dance. The musical base are the rhythms deriving from
West Africa, especially from Guinea. The ensemble plays African percussion
instruments such as Djembe, Doundounba, Kenkeni and Sangba.
Each member of the group has influenced our musicin a special way. For
instance playing the drum kit or rhythms from
South America, dancing and improvisation and last but not least the singing
of Bulgarian and Armenian
songs
for several voices, make our music very
special. .

In that way a very interesting music for listening and dancing arose. It
combines acapella singing, African drumming and our own creations, which
make
Percussonia very different from other Afro-bands
Not
only does Percussonia give concerts, but the band also plays at partys and at
street festivals (for example at the street festival in Linz-Austria). One can
also take part in drumming lessons ( there are regular courses in Berlin ) or
drumming workshops ( not only in Berlin )
